Cipher covers the technological innovations we need to get to net-zero emissions and solve climate change.
Cipher means zero, which we find intriguing because our goal is simple, but hard. Going from the 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases we emit a year today to zero by 2050.
Cipher also means code. We aim to decode complex topics and make them clear to people at all levels working to solve climate change — and anyone who wants to be an informed, concerned citizen.
We publish our newsletter most Wednesday mornings U.S. Eastern Time. We also have a video series where we interview newsmakers and innovators.
Amy Harder, a longtime energy and climate change journalist, leads the Cipher team as its executive editor. Before joining Breakthrough in 2021 to help launch Cipher, Amy has covered these topics for Axios, The Wall Street Journal and more.
