Carbon costs.

EU motorists are set to pay at least 50 cents a litre more on diesel starting in 2031 to cover carbon costs, which raises fears of fresh protests against climate laws, the Financial Times reported.

Beginning in 2027, suppliers will be required to buy allowances to cover their carbon emissions and are expected to pass that cost to consumers. It's an extension of the EU's original carbon market.
