The shipping industry is looking back to wind power in the form of huge sails to cut fuel use and carbon emissions by as much as one-third for some routes and uses, The New York Times reports.

Shipping is among the so-called hard to abate industries. As with others, the solution will be a suite of technologies—for specific uses and locations—that whittle away at the problem.
