Transmission support.

The U.S. Energy Department announced Monday it will provide $1.3 billion for three transmission projects with the capacity to carry 3.5 gigawatts of power—enough to power 3 million homes.

The government is seeking to ensure the success of these projects by entering into contracts with federal dollars to purchase part of the lines' capacities, thereby reducing the risk of incompletion.
